Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Your body is complex, and sometimes it requires complex care to grow and improve. At Arkansas Holistic, we believe in bringing you natural care that ensures your body improves with age. Rather than quick fixes or doses, we provide intentional care that's both preventative and helpful in solving your body's pains and problems. We are one of the only clinics in the area to offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, otherwise known as HBOT. HBOT is used to treat multiple conditions, from anemia to a wound that refuses to heal.

What is HBOT?

HBOT is a safe treatment in which patients will breathe in pure oxygen in a pressurized room or through a tube. This oxygen is two or three times the usual amount of air pressure, allowing your body to receive more oxygen than average. This oxygen is vital in healing and providing your body with needed nutrients. This pressurized chamber or breathing tube's concentrated oxygen produces excellent results, making it a perfect holistic care option. Our bodies can often heal themselves, but they need extra care and boosts of nutrients, which HBOT provides. HBOT can aid many conditions that are causing you pain or health complications. The oxygen level in an HBOT treatment increases to approximately 50/60%, compared to the much lower typical atmospheric oxygen, which is about 20%. With the air pressure increase, your lungs can receive this amount of concentrated oxygen. Due to this increase, your blood can carry oxygen throughout the body more quickly than usual—this aids in healing your cells more efficiently, speeding up and helping along the healing process. The tissues in your body need a sufficient oxygen supply to work (or heal) properly, and when you are injured, your body suddenly needs even more oxygen to thrive. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy improves the volume of oxygen your body can use to heal and function at the best capacity. This increase in blood oxygen also briefly recovers standard blood gases and tissue function that injury impairs. HBOT overall increases the health of your overall body and speeds up the recovery process.

The Pros of Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a medical treatment that aids your body in the healing process by increasing the amount of oxygen your body receives and carries through the blood. This treatment will occur in a total body chamber that will increase the atmospheric to aid your body. HBOT is usually incorporated in a medical plan that our team has customized to help you live healthier and happier lives. Typically, the oxygen in your body is transported by red blood cells. However, with HBOT, oxygen is dissolved into all of the body's fluids, which means your plasma, lymph, bone, and the central nervous system's fluids all get additional oxygen shares. That oxygen is then carried to areas in your body that might otherwise have blocked or diminished access to oxygen. That ability is excellent news when it comes to helping heal the affected areas of your body. The extra oxygen that your body is receiving can help to reduce swelling and kill harmful bacteria. It also helps blood vessels to grow more quickly than they usually would, once again aiding in the healing process. There's a lot to like about this non-invasive and painless treatment option.

What does Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment Entail?

When you come into our office for HBOT treatment, we'll ensure you're fully prepared and have everything you need. We prioritize holistic care, and that includes providing a stress-free environment. Our treatment will involve lying down inside our HBOT chamber as the pressure and oxygen levels are increased. Once you come in, our team will prep you for your treatment before going into the pressure chamber. The stress and oxygen will slowly increase. This oxygen-rich environment will speed and multiply the oxygen molecules' concentration to damaged or impaired tissues, improving healing. As the pressure changes in the chamber, you may begin to feel a slight pressure in your ears, similar to taking a deep dive in a pool. You can relieve this, similar to being in an airplane, by swallowing or opening your mouth several times. The temperature may begin to warm as the pressure increases, but don't worry, it will soon return to normal. On average, the treatment lasts about one or two hours based on your therapy needs. Treatments for chronic issues like autoimmune disorders, chronic fatigue, tinnitus, tissue healing, and more will frequently require around 10 sessions or less, depending on your preference and needs. Besides using sessions to treat severe conditions, many people also use Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy for wellness and longevity to live longer and higher-quality lives.

Being in the chamber for this long can be a therapeutic experience. You will be able to rest without the distraction of work emails, kids, or other elements. However, if you decide you need your phone or tablet for a show or music, you can bring it inside as well. We recommend that you leave your devices outside of the session, however, and get a water bottle to focus on your total well-being. Your well-being is our priority, so let us know what you need to ensure you have a comfortable and excellent therapy session. You may want to keep in mind that the tension in your ears felt at the beginning of the session may happen again once the decompression process begins.

Can Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy Cause Side Effects?

Side effects are not common when it comes to receiving HBOT treatment. A minimal amount of patients may experience a slight change in vision or ear pressure, but these side effects usually disappear within eight weeks of completing the treatment. We typically recommend that our patients receive a different eyewear prescription for the duration of their treatments to correct this side effect. Complications are usually infrequent when it comes to HBOT. Give us a call today to schedule your HBOT treatment to improve your body's overall function without the need for prescription drugs.
